About Lorna B. Wilson
Lorna B Wilson is a Barbadian artist who credits God and nature as her inspiration. She remembers doodling and sketching from an early age. She reveled in the magnificent colours and interesting people that inhabit her beautiful native home, Barbados. These were the forces that drew her to fulfil her dream of becoming an artist.
In 2010 Lorna was invited to show her work in a group exhibition to raise funds for the relief effort in Haiti. She sold all her paintings. The response to her work was encouraging. Since then, she has shown her work in several group exhibitions and galleries around the island. Now her art is in many homes and business places throughout the island and overseas. She also uses her art as a means of "giving back to her community". Working with disadvantaged and abused children, art is used as a means of allowing them to channel their energy into creativity, giving them an avenue to escape their reality and also see their potential.
Although Lorna doesn't like to limit her horizons, and believes that the world of art is still open for more exploration, she particularly enjoys painting fish and sea life, including the vivacious fisherfolk of the Caribbean. Her preferred medium is acrylic paint. She's now experimenting with the poured paint technique, with its natural flow and marbling-like texture. She learned this technique from accomplished artist and art instructor, Heidi Berger. Further to that, she is also using collage with newspaper and other materials, painting her subject of choice on top of the collage.
Lorna knows that she was destined to use her art to reach others on a deeper level than just a beautifully done painting. Her favourite quote is "To whom much is given, of him much is expected". Armed with this, she looks for ways to impact others through her art.
Her work can be seen at: The Village Gallery at the Crane Resort, The Festival Art Gallery, Waves Hotel, and Eddoes.
